BioNET LIS – laboratory information system
BioNET LIS is a group of modules that together comprise a flexible and cost-effective laboratory information system designed to automate laboratory processes, from receiving and marking the samples to acquiring results from analytic instruments to an advanced reporting system and accounting. BioNET LIS is completely suited for work in private laboratories as well as in public health institutions.
All samples are marked with bar code, reducing the possibility of identification errors and ensuring a complete integration with analytical instruments which consequently drastically reduce TAT (Turn Around Time). There is support for integration with more than 250 different instruments available in the market (Roche, Abbott, Beckman Coulter, Siemens, Radiometer, Phadia, Sebia, IL, and so on). In case the integration for an instrument is not supported, it will be developed in the shortest time possible.
A number of functionalities such as delta check, display of repeated results, review of panic values, auto validation, and an automated calculation of all the computed checkups make it easier for the responsible persons to confirm the results but also improves quality significantly as well as makes the process of issuing laboratory reports faster.
Integration with different hospital information systems is made possible by the use of HL7 protocol, an international standard for exchange of medical data but there are also other methods of distributing lab test results such as a separate client application designed for ordering tests and reviewing results in different departments, usage of web server or printing on remote printers. The control sample results are automatically transferred from analytical instruments and processed in the module for quality control. Beside Levey-Jenning and Youden visual representation for testing and control procedure, there is also a visual display of variation coefficients as well as the trend of variation coefficients independently of control sample lot. The quality control module also supports the use of ten same devices and the comparison results are shown in Bland-Altman and Passing-Bablok visual representations as well as in a simplified graphical representation suitable for everyday use.
The reporting module – beside the usual reports towards the organizational unit, doctor or the overall business process of the laboratory – also has TAT reports, monitoring of non-conformance, “top ten” reports about the largest doctor’s or organisational unit’s client, workflow reports, and so on.
Along with the base program solutions, there are other hardware and software improvements also available, such as mobile applications for technicians (with support for mobile bar code printers) and management of the laboratory, reagent warehouse module, instrument maintenance status as well as employee education, BI module, keyboards with two-way communication for the input of BDT and urine sediment results, a device for an automated reception of samples bar-coded outside the laboratory (central health care information system, departments), devices to register the person and the time of sampling, devices for management of archived samples as well as an application and hardware for refrigerator monitoring.
